Understanding Attendance Requirements for Course Credit
To ensure students receive academic credit for their courses, the state of Texas has two requirements that must be met each semester:
- Academic Performance: The student must achieve a semester average of 70 or higher.
- Attendance: The student must be physically present in class for at least 90% of the instructional days.
Falling below the 90% attendance threshold, which typically equates to more than three to four unexcused (UNX) absences in a semester-long class, will result in the loss of credit for that course, regardless of the student's grade.
If you did not pass one of your courses, you may recover your credits through the following options:
Delta
- Self-paced computer program
- Offered as a class during the school day
- Since it is self-paced, students can finish as quickly as they would like, and they can work on daily assignments at home in addition to at school (tests must be completed at school)
- Students can earn up to a 100 average
Twilight
- Self-paced computer program
- Classes are virtually after school during the school year
- Taught by an Anderson teacher
- Students can earn up to a 100 average
Year-Long Averaging
- Both semester averages average out to a 70 (ex. Semester 1- 64/ Semester 2- 76)
- Students get credit for both semesters
Credit by Exam (CBE)
- Comprehensive exam that you can take to prove you have mastered the content for a course without prior instruction
- Offered once a semester for free at Anderson, but you can choose to pay and take through UT High School at any time
- Students can earn up to a 100 average
- Your grade will be transcripted (even if you fail the exam)
