Career Exploration Resources for Anderson Students

Exploring your career interests early will help you make better decisions about your high school courses, college major, and future career path. Anderson HS students have access to two powerful, free tools for career exploration: Naviance and My Texas Future.


1. Naviance Career Exploration

How to Access Naviance

  1. Go to the AISD Student Portal and Search for Naviance in applications. Bookmark it!

  2. From the Naviance home page, click on “Careers” or “Self-Discovery” in the top menu.

These tools help you better understand your strengths, interests, and values so you can make informed decisions about your future:

  • Strengths Explorer – Identifies your top three natural talents and how to apply them to school, work, and life.

  • Career Interest Profiler – Matches your personal interests to career fields and shows you potential career paths.

  • Career Cluster Finder – Connects your favorite subjects, personal qualities, and activities to career clusters.

  • Learning & Productivity Assessment – Helps you discover your preferred learning style so you can choose environments that help you succeed.

  • Personality Assessment – Identifies what matters most to you in a career, such as work-life balance, helping others, or high earnings.

  • Career Profiles – Search hundreds of careers to see job descriptions, required education, salary ranges, and job outlook.

  • Clusters and Pathways – Learn which high school and college courses prepare you for your career goals.


Grade-Level Recommendations

  • Grade 9 – Introduction & Self-Awareness
    Complete StrengthsExplorer and Career Cluster Finder, then explore and save at least 3 careers in Favorites.

  • Grade 10 – Interest & Skill Alignment
    Complete Career Interest Profiler and Personality Assessment, then research Cluster Pathways careers.

  • Grade 11 – Career Pathway & Post-Secondary Planning
    Review and update previous assessments. Deep dive into Career Profiles (salary, job outlook, required education) and explore the Colleges & Majors section.

  • Grade 12 – Transition Planning
    Optionally review assessments to confirm your direction. Use Pathways to ensure your postsecondary plan aligns with your goals, and explore work-based learning or internships if available.

  • Save careers of interest to your Favorites for future reference.

  • Revisit your results each year to see how your interests and goals evolve.

About My Texas Future
My Texas Future is a free resource from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to help Texas students explore education and career pathways.

How to Access

  1. Go to https://mytexasfuture.org/.

  2. Select the "Explore Careers" section.

  3. No login is required, but you can create a free account to save your progress.

Career Exploration Features

  • Texas Career Check – Explore occupations, salaries, and demand in Texas.

  • Programs of Study – Learn which college programs lead to your desired career.

  • Workforce Trends – See which jobs are growing in Texas and the skills needed for them.

  • Interest and Skills Assessments – Get personalized career suggestions.

Tips for Using My Texas Future Effectively

  • Compare careers by salary, growth rate, and required education.

  • Use the “Programs” section to find Texas colleges that offer your intended major.

  • Check the “Job Market” section to see hiring trends in your region.
